How it is calculated
- Loss if stop is hit = balance × risk % ÷ 100
- Position size = loss if stop is hit ÷ |entry − stop|
- Position value = size × entry; margin needed = value ÷ leverage
- Liquidation check (isolated margin): long = entry × (1 − 1 ÷ leverage) ÷ (1 − MMR); short = entry × (1 + 1 ÷ leverage) ÷ (1 + MMR). The stop must be reached before this price.
Worked example
Risking 1% of 1,000 USDT on a long at 100 with the stop at 95.
| You enter | |
|---|---|
| Account balance | 1,000 USDT |
| Risk per trade | 1 % |
| Entry price | 100 |
| Stop-loss price | 95 |
| Leverage | 10 × |
| Maintenance margin rate | 0.5 % |
| You get | |
| Position size (coins) | 2 |
| Position value | 200 USDT |
| Margin needed | 20 USDT |
| Loss if stop is hit | 10 USDT |
| Direction | Long (stop below entry) |
| Estimated liquidation price (isolated margin) | 90.45226 |
| Stop and margin check | OK |
Buy 2 coins (200 USDT, using 20 USDT margin at 10×). If the price hits your stop, you lose about 10 USDT, 1% of your account, before fees.
Questions
Why does leverage not change the size?
Your loss at the stop depends only on size and distance to the stop. Leverage only changes how much margin is locked. Check your liquidation price is beyond the stop.
Why does the liquidation price show 0?
A long at 1× (spot, or futures with no leverage) cannot be liquidated by a price fall, so there is no liquidation price.
Is the liquidation check exact?
It is an estimate for isolated margin, using the maintenance margin rate you enter. Exchanges use tiered rates, mark price and fees, so always confirm the liquidation price your exchange shows before you open the trade.
